Belrose to play Cabramatta for Grade 1 Pennant

Tony Tinworth, Sunday, 5 August 2012

The Belrose teams played magnificent bowls today to earn a finals match against Cabramatta for the Grade 1 pennant tomorrow.

In othet State Pennant matches, all our clubs bar Avalon won their third round matches, a great result but unfortunately not good enough to earn a semi-final match for any of them.

In the grade 1 competition, Belrose had an easy win in their third round match against Wagga Rules to progress to the semi=-final where they played the Section 1 winners, Glenbrook. This game, which did not commence until 2pm and fiinished under lights, started well for Belrose where they lead a third way into the match by 15 shots , 28-13. They then 'fell into a hole' to a lead of  only 7 shots- 37-30 after 38 ends. Spurred on by the enthusiastic band of supporters, they forged ahead over the remainder of the game to finish with a comfortable 65 to 41 shots win.Last year Belrose lost the Grade 1 final by 2 shots to St John's Park. Let's hope for a better result this year!

Playing for Belrose are:
Mike Smith, Matt Blackburn, Brad Franklin & Steve Rawlings
Dave Shearer, Michael Harvey, Cy Threfall & Nathan Wise
Lauch Sturrock, Steve Clark, Crawford Linton & John Campton
