Pittwater wins Cyril South Trophy

Pittwater Bowling Club has won this years Cyril South Trophy which is conducted each year by Killara Bowling Club. To win, they defeated Turramurra in the final - apparently their 3rd loss in the final in succession!

The format of this competition is that Killara plays several local clubs and the visitors are expected to win! The four sides with the biggest winning margins go on to play a semi-final and a final for the trophy, a handsome silver salver.

The history of the event is:

Cyril South was President of Killara Bowling Club from 1959 to 1962 and Patron 1982 to 1988, by all reports a charismatic character. In 1971 he set up a bequest, by deed, to provide an annual trophy for an event designed to promote bowls in the Northern Suburbs. Tradition decrees that afternoon tea consists of scones, jam and cream!

More recently, it was decided that, in order to make for better competition, teams be chosen with nearly even capability, and so players are restricted .to those who play Pennants in Grades 3 -7.
