2017 Zone 9 Senior Side

Despite a narrow loss to Zone 12 (Sydney South West) in Wednesday's semi-final the Zone 9 Senior Side can look back at this week's BNSW State Senior Sides Championships held at Taren Point BC with some satisfaction having dominated their section and challenged the Zone 12 boys right down to the wire.

Day 1 saw comfortable victories over Zone 7 (65-53; 2 rinks to one) and Zone 4 (77-48; 2 rinks and a draw) leave Zone 9 in pole position to take their Section and so it was on Day 2 as our team white-washed Zone 5 (65-37) winning on all 3 rinks.  Zone 9's total of 28.5 points after sectional play was the best of all the 16 Zones competing in these Championships.

Our semi-final opponents had emerged with a narrow win in their 'section of death' and proved a worthy adversary in a match played on a slick 16s paced green with one very tight hand.  Zone 9 were quickest out of the blocks and dominated the early ends to have a comfortable 23-13 lead before Zone 12 picked up a number of multiple scores in quick succession to establish a 49-34 advantage.  A solid fightback on all rinks saw Zone 9 trying to score 6 on the last end to force an unlikely tie but Zone 12 emerged victorious 59-54 winning on just the one rink.
