Mona Vale Grade 2 State Champions
Mark Alexander, Monday, 7 August 2017

Fantastic news from Wagga yesterday with Mona Vale BC winning the BNSW State Grade 2 Flag having gone undefeated through their State Finals campaign.

Mona Vale enjoyed a convincing 66-40 win over Moruya in the Final but the real story of their success lies in their epic semi-final encounter with Inverell East.  Mona Vale were well in front for much of the semi-final but Inverell picked up an incredible 6 shots on the last end to draw level at 56-56 after the regulation 63 ends.  There was initially some confusion whether this meant Inverell had won the match courtesy of winning on 2 rinks but the BNSW COP state that the match had to be decided by an extra end on each rink.  With the completion of two of those extra ends Mona Vale were 4 down and also one down (with 5 seconds) on the last rink to finish.  Up stepped the cool and composed Steve (Chook) Clark who played a brilliant on-shot to remove that one bowl and leave Mona Vale winning by one shot 61-60.

The success of the Mona Vale side is built on a mix of experience and youth and camaraderie and their victory yesterday was testament to all three.

Congratulations to all the Mona Vale players:

Gary Quince, Michael Cleaver, Stuart McLeod & Steve Clark

Michael Ashford, Steve Witte, Adam Moody & Rod Hummelstad

Wayne Fletcher, Roger Manning, Mark Blackwood & Adam Glew
