VETERANS INTERZONE - Day 1

Zone 9 v Zone 13 at Club Grandviews
Mark Alexander, Thursday, 25 October 2018

It was a tough day at the office for Zone 9 at the inaugural Veterans Interzone that commenced today at Club Grandviews in Sydney's south.

Zone 9 had a bye in Round 1 and opened their campaign in Round 2 against the local Zone 13 side.  Playing on a green running 17-18 seconds, Zone 9 found themeslves down 10-20 approaching the half-way mark of the 45 end match (3 rinks playing 15 ends each).  A terrific comeback on all rinks saw the scores tied 32-32 playing the last end but Zone 13 prevailed by the odd shot to conclude a keenly fought match.

After a short lunch break, Zone 9 took on our near neighbours Zone 10 (Sydney West).  The Zone 10 boys were quick out of the blocks and never eased up the pressure, in the end recording a convincing 67-20 victory.

With two further matches tomorrow against Zones 2 and 15, the Zone 9 team will be hoping for a better outcome.

Overall, the concept of a Veterans Interzone has been very well received by the five Zones competing and there would be hopes that more Zones enter in years to come.
