METRO GRADE 1 - Round 11

Mark Alexander, Sunday, 31 March 2019

Another day of contrasting fortunes for Belrose and Harbord in today's Round 11 of the Metropolitan Grade 1 competition.

The Belrose Bulls bounced straight back from yesterday's first loss of the season with a hard-fought 64-57 (9-1) victory over Grandviews.  As often occurs, the two rinks that lost yesterday won today with Crawford Linton (23-16) and Brad Franklin (19-15) emerging on top while Matt Blackburn's rink (22-26) suffered a narrow loss.  Approaching the half-way point of the season, the Bulls are well placed in the top six.

The Harbord Hawks were looking for three wins on the trot when they ventured out to St Johns Park.  Despite outstanding team efforts on two rinks, one comprehensive loss proved the difference as the Hawks went down by 11 shots, 64-75 (1.5-8.5).  Terry Warder's rink enjoyed a terrific victory (26-13) over former Australian representative Mark Berghofer while Paul Leckey's team had their second draw of the weekend (26-26) up against current Australian representative Ben Twist.  Unfortunately, Mark Alexander's rink (12-36) were completely outplayed in suffering a devastating 24 shot loss, a margin that just could not be covered by the successful rinks.
