The Final of the 2019 Zone Champion of Club Champion Pairs proved to be a cracker throughout and was ultimately decided by the last bowl of the match when Asquith's John Campton trailed a bare jack to claim 2 shots and the title over Harbord by the narrowest of margins, 15/14.  As the score suggests, it was not a high-scoring affair with only one of the 21 ends decided by more than 2 shots.

The Asquith duo of Quentin PriceJohn Campton  had emerged from a distinctly tougher side of the draw, including an extra-end 21/20 thriller over Mosman in the quarter-final and a hard-fought 22/19 victory over the North Sydney Bears in the semi-final.  John has been a regular in multiple Zone Finals over the years, and won this event back in 2007, but for Quentin it was his first Zone Championship and he looks to have a promising bowls career ahead of him.  Quentin and John have now qualified for the State CoCC Finals to be held at South Tamworth BC from 13-18th October.

The heart-break for Harbord's Lucas Shankland & Mark Alexander was tempered by the knowledge that they had pushed the Asquith boys to the absolute limit in the Final and had performed remarkably, as an untried combination, in winning the Harbord Club Pairs and then reaching the Zone Final.  Lucas, much like his opposing lead, looks to have a bright future ahead of him having also reached the Final of the Zone Reserve Fours earlier this year.  For Mark (Doc) Alexander, this was his third time as runner-up in the Zone CoCC Pairs, having reached the Final in 2007 (where he lost to John!), 2014 and now 2019, oddly enough with a different partner on each occasion.  Doc has also been runner-up three times in the Zone Open Pairs.
