'A' side - minus a few late arrivals!

Zone 9 won the Allan Buckley shield after 12 closely fought games against teams from Zone 10 by 7 shots - 230 to 223. Well done fellows!
This annual competition between Zones 9 and 10 is named in honour of Allan Buckley, a life and highly regarded late member of Denistone Bowling Club. Allan passed away late last year so this years game was of particular significance and was played at his old club. The committee of Denistone BC managed the organisation superbly and the games were played in overcast, but humid conditions. A great day was had by all players.
A highlight of the mornings play was a nail biter between Steve Ashdown's team and Cameron Curtis ' team. Steve went into the last end 1 shot down, but scored 2 shots on the last end to win 19 - 18.  Shaun Thompson's team had a big win 28 - 15 but other than for that game, all other games were remarkably close.
This year, for the first time the competition was played by 3 sides, each of 4 teams - an A grade, a B side of emerging players and a Seniors side. The seniors games were particularly close with a 2 shot margin - 73 to 71.  Last year the competition was won by Zone 10 by a significant margin - 220 shots to 175 so the result was a great turnaround for Zone 9.
Zone President Geoff Campbell accepted the trophy on behalf of Zone 9. Also present were Zone Councillor Les McAlpine and Chairman of Selectors Carl Perry.
