Vets & Supervets Day a big success

Tony Tinworth, Monday, 15 March 2010

Over 100 happy veteran & superveteran bowlers had a wonderful day at the annual vets 7 supervets day held this year at Pittwater Memorial Bowling Club. Zone President Bob Moran was there but I'm not sure he qualifies as a veteran!

Zone Patron Fred Leane who organised the day with help from Bill Burridge, Frank Geer and Cec Robinson, reports that the weather was great, the greens were great and everyone had a great day with loads of fellowship. Bowls were followed by a delicious roast lamb for lunch and desserts.

The bottle of scotch for the oldest bowler was won by Les Wadham of Turramurra and in an innovation this year there was a prize for the oldest veteran. Only problem was there were 4 eligible to win so they drew for the winner. As well there were plenty of lucky tombola winners of spirits, wine and beer donated by the players or their clubs. The lucky rink winners- by the toss of a coin because there were 2 teams with wins of 18 shots - was Cec Robinson's team from North Manly.

Fred farewelled all present with a wish that they all come again next year! Our thanks to Bruce Smith and Pittwater RSL for making their greens and facilities available and for their hospitality.
