George Appleby and Graham Bruce today scored an upset win over last year titleholders Lee Trethowan and John Campton in today's all Asquith State Pairs Finals played at Belrose Bowling Club in front of a large group of spectators.

George & Graham played consistent bowls to win the match, with George playing some great drives and on shots. The turning point in the match came when Lee and John dropped a 4 and a 5 in consequetive ends in the middle of the game. Down 8 -17 after 16 ends, Lee and John won the next 4 ends but in the 20th end they were holding 3 or 4 shots when George drove the jack into the ditch to deny them a multiple score.

Yesterday, Lee and John 'squeaked' into the semi final by defeating Belrose's Max Gray and Rocky Davis by scoring 2 shots on the last end of the match to win by one shot. In the semi-final against Harbord's Phil Enever and Terry Warder they had a very slow start, being down 8 shots to 2 after 7 ends. They then won the next 8 ends to lead 18-8 . The final score was 21-12

The other semi-final between Asquith clubmates Graham Bruce & George Appleby against Steve Lowe & Bill Miller was 'neck and neck' all the way with Graham & George managing to hold on to win 19-18
