Seniors win confirmed

Tony Tinworth, Tuesday, 6 July 2010

The expected win of the Metropolitan Inter-zone Seniors Shield has been confirmed.

Zone 12, the only other Zone in with a chance, had a 5-2 win in round 10 played last Thursday where they needed a 7-nil win, and a further 7-nil win if they replayed the rained out round 5 against Zone 13. The Shield, currently held by Zone 12, will be presented to President Bob Moran at the forthcoming Alphapharm Senior Inter-Zones Sides Championship to be played at Wagga from Tuesday 20th to Thursday 22nd July.

Players selected to represent the Zone at this event are:

P Carroll (Harbord), Dave Shearer (Harbord), Phil Westcott (Belrose) & Crawford Linton (Belrose)
G Lewis (Manly), Geoff Hamilton (Turramurra), Phil Ward (Asquith) & Bill Webb (Asquith)
B Stelling (Dee Why), R Hurst (Harbord), John Boreham (Dee Why) & Tony Taylor (North Sydney)

All played most of the rounds in the Mid-week event. Last year our side made the semi-final of the Alphapharm event before going down to Zone 10.

Sectional play will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday morning with sectional winners playing a semi-final on Wednesday afternoon with a final on Thursday morning. It will be a busy week for Crawford, Phil and Tony (and President Bob) as they all have to front up two days later at Nelson Bay for the Inter-zone Round Robin Challenge Shield - details already on the website.

Best of luck at both events, gents.
