Zone President Bob Moran has sent this full report on play at this weeks Aplhapharm Seniors Interzone competition;

Zone 9 had a successful tournament in the State Seniors Interzone Event at Wagga.    After rolling up in drizzling to heavy rain on Monday afternoon the weather did not look promising.   The first mach against Zone 15 commenced in thick fog, and Zone 9 were able to win comfortably despite the fog.   By the start of the second match against Zone 6 the fog had cleared to a sunny day and this match was very tight, with Zone 9 winning by 1 shot after being well down and staging a remarkable comeback to win with a four on the last end.    By this time the temperature had dropped and it was very cold , but the win warmed up the players and officials.    Zone 9 went to the third round robin match needing a win, as an adverse result in the other match could cause Zone 9 to lose on margin. The start of play for this round was delayed by frost on the green. The side played well winning all three rinks and went on to the semi-final.

The semi-final started late, and by 3pm it was starting to get very cold, and by 5.30 with the lights allowing play it was very very cold indeed.    Zone 9 played Zone 16 in the semi-final and while trailing for most of the match hit the front with five ends to play, but some excellent bowling by Zone 16 saw them win by 5 shots, and they subsequently comfortably defeated Zone 12 in the final.
Zone 9 played very well to win their section, and were the side which were closest on results to the Winners, Zone 16, who must be congratulated on a second sucessive win.  The Zone 9 players all contributed, with Andy Dessaix and Palmer Mitchell having to join the side at the last minute.   Phil Westcott, who had been delayed in USA, flew down to Wagga on Tuesday night, and played in the Wednesday matches.
